Measure the footprint

Measure length and width in feet for a rectangular area. Break an L-shaped project into separate rectangles and add their areas without counting the shared portion twice. Write down which measurements are approximate. A sketch with labeled dimensions is more useful than an unexplained total.

For a driveway extension, measure the proposed addition separately from the existing driveway. For a concrete patio extension, show the existing edge and the new outline. Do not treat this exercise as a site survey or use it to set a property boundary.

Use dimensions to compare the right scope

A 10 × 10 foot area is 100 square feet; 12 × 12 is 144; 12 × 20 is 240; and 20 × 20 is 400. These are area examples, not standard designs or quoted project prices. Searches for 10x10 concrete slab cost or 20x20 concrete slab cost still need a defined use, preparation, and project requirements before they can produce a useful estimate.

A square-foot calculator cannot determine concrete patio cost, concrete pad cost, or the cost to replace a driveway. It helps record one input—the footprint—so your request is clearer.

Take photos that answer practical questions

Include an overview, the edges where new work connects, any damaged sections, and the route from the street to the work area. For a backyard project, include gate openings and narrow passages. Add notes about access constraints and anything you want to remain in place.

Do not send photos of unrelated personal documents. The consultation form accepts up to six optional project photos. You can submit without photos if you do not have them yet.

Describe the result you need

State whether you want new concrete, removal and replacement, or an extension. Explain the intended use, preferred finish, location, and general timing. Mention future structures or heavier uses early so their requirements can be reviewed.

Then review how to compare concrete estimates. A clear request helps identify the next step, but an online calculation is not a commitment to price or schedule.

Calculate a rectangular project area

Enter approximate dimensions in feet. This calculates footprint only—not concrete quantity, thickness, structural suitability, or price. For an irregular layout, measure separate rectangles and add their areas.
